Ok guys. Our 1998 35Hp Johnson is Heating up. The buzzer goes off and the light comes on. It buzzes for about 20 secs. Then the light stays on and few minutes later it goes off. It only does it when Idling. Today I had just put in and I was waiting for someone at the dock with it running to warm up. After a few minutes the buzzer went off. Idled it up a little bit too pump more water and a minute later the light went off but even at idle it pumps a good stream of water. Then this evening when I got back to the dock when I was waiting to load it up it did it again. Only when I'm sitting. When I'm wide open it does great. No problems. But when I stop it heats up. Any help would be great. Thanks a bunch. Sorry to be long winded I just wanted to be thorough.

when was the last time water pump impeller was changed?...when was last time you changed complete water pump with housing? check your thermostats if it has one also.

I have a similar problem. Just had my 83' 115 hp evinrude rebuilt and took it out for the 2nd time over the weekend. Made a bone head mistake and ran it up the river near the harbor. Shortly after, it overheated and warning buzzer went on. Later checked and the water pump intake on the leg was clogged.

started it today and it heated up to the point where I couldn't touch the heads.

Should I check the water pump?
Could the thermostat need replacing from the motor overheating?
Would the temp. sensor on the head need to be checked?
