Default 2001 lowe sea nymph fm165 - opinions/questions.

I'm looking at a 2001 fm165 4 seats, trolling motor, newer batteries, am/fm,
onboard charger, 2001 johnson 50 hp w/oil injector removed. Newer bilge and
livewell pump. Need to check compression and drive it. They are asking $5700.
Looks to be in good shape.

The questions I have are: Does that price seem reasonble? What should the compression be? Does removing the oil injector make sense on that motor?
Will that motor be enough power for this boat? Any other known problems with this year and model boat and motor? Should I be looking for anything else? Searching for a newer reliable boat to take my grand kids fishing in.
Hope thats not to many questions - Thanks for your help in advance.

This would be a great boat for fishing with grandkids. These boats are very reliable. 50 hp is fine for fishing. However, removing the oil injector is a bad idea on an oil injection motor. There is no reason to remove it unless it went bad, and they don't usually go bad unless you run them with no oil. Pumps as well will last a long time unless they are run dry or frozen. I would not expect to have to replace both pumps on a 2001. I don't know what the compression should be on this motor, but with a 2001 compression should not be an issue, especially with an oil injected motor (which in this case it is no longer). Considering these issues, I would be very cautious with this particular purchase. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. They claim the vro injector was removed because of the failures that were exeperienced with these in those model years. I checked with a mechanic and he said this is not that unsual many people had them removed and just mixed the oil and gas rather than take the chance.
I would definitely take a test drive and have a mechanic give it a compression check they do have paper work on the motor, Ill have to see if any of it covers it. I know where the boat was originally purchased but would doubt they have anything since it is a 2001 but maybe they would know.

Would you know how NADA prices stack up to the prices individulas ask for their rigs. I know everybody thinks their boat is great but the NADA always
does seem somewhat low.
