Default My SmartTabs results on my 192

Finally tried out the sx smarttabs that I had installed a few weeks ago.
I am very pleased with results .
This is on an 07 192 with 190hp merc with 19p hi 5 prop
I didnt have a gps so speeds are via speedo
Minimum plane is now 20mph @3000rpms
Before tabs min plane 23-25 @3200rpms
So 200 rpms lower & stays on plane solid @3000rpm.
exactly what I was after .
The boat leaps on plane from a standing start now ,I thought it was pretty good before tabs , but now , I AM IMPRESSED with my lil v6 .
I had started with the tabs at the #4 setting but top speed was down to 42mph (speedo) had it up to 46mph(speedo)earlier in the year.
So I backed tabs to the last setting.
Top speed up to 44mph ... good enough .
The boat behaves much better now with the tabs .
I can now trim up & boat doesnt porpose at any speed ..( it was bad before )
The boat also handles chop from other boats or rough water way better .
Might be the fact that I can now trim up a bit more .
But I swear that its a much smoother riding boat in rough water than it was before .
Added plus for me is trolling speed is even slower than it was before tabs .
Must be the extra drag in the lowered position.
So slap a set of smarttabs on your 192s you wont be sorry .

btw I used the 60lbs shocks with sx tabs ( the plastic ones )

Jim,

Great to hear! Exactly the same results I have been able to get. You may also notice reduced low speed wander typical of I/O's.

The Hi 5 must look awesome! I've yet to see one up here.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

For sure the low speed wander is a lot less.
Its kinda like a new boat, to me now.
I put over 60+ hrs on her this year alone.
Too bad summer weather just came now to the province.
Hi 5 looks blingy but I would like to play with a different props.
WOT runs were @ 4900rpm & it didnt feel like it was hitting rev limiter .
My WOT runs before tabs I could hit the rev limiter .
But different water conditions might be the cause
Should use a gps to verify speeds .
I think a 20p hi 5 would be perfect for me , but they dont make one .
Got a lil nick on the hi5 now & if I get it fixed i might see about getting
the pitch tweeked a bit.
Or better yet forget to winterize the engine this winter & get a 383 MPI
for my lil Rinker.

yep, same as MVN did
Check out his pics
thats the only place you can stick them .
Kinda mad that I didnt install them last year .
Just go with the 60lbs actuaters as I believe
Mvn tried them all out .
I am a lil under propped so my top speed is a little lower &
my revs are hi , but it works for me .
The tabs just made my boat better ...

In combination with the tabs, I tried a number of props. I found that you have to go to a cupped stainless prop to really take advantage of everything the SmartTabs have to offer.

All props were 4-blade Precision Props stainless steel at 14 1/4 diameter. I tried 18", 20" and 22" props. I made a little spreadsheet that calculates the theoretical boat speed taking prop efficiency, drive ratio, prop pitch and engine speed into account. The magenta line is pitch versus max WOT rpm and the blue line is pitch versus max boat speed.

The theoretical results were verified by GPS.

The 18" pitch made the boat feel like a freight train but the top end was way down. the 22" gave it great top end but gave poor performance when loaded. I'm running the 20" right now with good overall performance.
