what s the benefit of the v4 140 versus the v6 150.

better fuel economy? versus more torque.

is there a big difference between these to motors power wise ?

thanks

The 60* will rev up quicker. I'm not sure the exact difference in torque, never had a 60* on a true dyno. I did race aginst a guy who had a 90* V4 looper just like I did and the best I could ever beat him was about 1/2 boat length in the 1/4 mile. Then he went to a 60* 150 and the best I could do was get within 3 boat lengths. His advantage was all off the line.

I have run a 90* V4 looper and a 60* 150 on our Dusky. Speed was about the same but the 150 got it on plane quicker. I don't remenber one or the other being much different on fuel on the Dusky.

Re: v4 looper140hp versus v6 60* looper 150hp

thanks dhadley,

reason im asking i just got my hands on a 1988 johnson 140hp looper, and i have a v6 150 60* just finished rebuilding it.

im just wondering wich one to hang on the back of my boat.
now i have a 115 hp cf v4 evi.

the 140 i can just swap motors the 150 it needs to be setup different.

any advise?

If the 60* is a 1995 or earlier all the wiring is the same for both your motors. The 140 is the big bore and will have Quick Start and all the features the 150 has. If it were me, I'd be tempted to hang the 150. And knowing me, I know I'd be hanging the 140 on the boat sooner or later.

Those are the kind of decisions that you can't go wrong on.
