can u tell me what the mystery screw is between fill screw & vent screw is on lower unit? , i removed it thinking it was fill screw,,, have i done any damage & how do i get screw back in? , it wont thread or screw back in. thanx

I hope you have already solved this problem, but just in case, the center screw is for the gear shift mechanism.
You need a special screw and a lot of luck that the hole still lines up otherwise you take the lower end apart.
