Default Transom Question

Currently I have an 18.5 Maxum bowrider. Absolutely love the lay out of the boat and am really happy with it. It's suited with a 120HP Force, 1992. I would like to maybe upgrade to something more reliable. I am looking at a 150 Yamaha and a Suzuki, both listed here...FYI, the Yammie is weighted at 490lbs. Can the transom handle that?

Just wondering if these are too big for the transom? I don't know the specs for the transom, and not sure of the weight of the Force compared to the Yammie and Suzuki. Can anyone help me out? Would you suggest going this route, are they too heavy for the boat? Thanks for any insight and input, appreciate it.

I know this is an old post.....what did you end up doing?

which engine did u get?

I have the same boat with a 120 force.....the plate says 120 is tops....and the force weighs only 350....

i had a bad experience putting a larger motor on another boat....was too heavy in the stern...and could never use all the power....so was not worth it...

so...what did you end up doing??

Hey bud, I ended up going with a 150 Optimax. The mechanic assured me that the transom would handle it and I've had it on the boat for almost two months now, and it's been great. Really enjoy it, a way better engine than the Force I had on there.

What about you? Any changes to your rig?
