Need help setting up my trailer for 1998 Cobia 22'8"

I purchased a 1998 Cobia 228 CC. It didn't have a trailer so I purchased on seperately. The trailer is made for a 25 foot boat. I have looked for specs on this trailer and have found nothing. I have also gone to a trailer store and they were no help. When I back my trailer into the water it hits the winch. I am not sure what adjustments need to be made to keep this from happening. If anyone has knowledge of the physics of a boat trailer they would be greatly appreciated.
