I just bought a chrysler 700 skeir engine and I dont know anything about it, It runs ok, I was just wondering if the impeller is bad or not.
there is two holes towards the top of the enigne that only squirts exauhst and I was wondering if water should be coming out too. the only place the water comes out is the bottom right behind the prop, and someone told me that water should come out these little holes also. Also if if there is any books on this enigne, I have searched every where and all there is is chrysler force stuff. it is a 3 cylinder engine.

any help would be greatly apreciated.
thanks mike

What year is your Chrysler? Most manuals seem to cover both Chrysler and Force motors in the same volume.

Look on the powerhead near the carburator. There should be a data plate with the model number of your motor

navyman_98_99
You have a good motor there...the only diference I can find between the 700 SKIER and the 75 horse is the gearing in the lower unit. I think the year would be '78-'79. Finally...at low rpms it should just spit a little water from the exhaust holes under the cowling. If you have any doubt about the waterpump...change it. I like to change the whole thing, housing and all...and don't forget the t-stat. Cheap insurance...just a Thought

Thanks guys for all your help, but I was wondering if I just used the bunny ears to give the engine water if that would make a difference in the water spitting out the exhaust holes right below the cowling. when I put the bunny ears on they didnt seal and water just squirted out and not too much water went in I dont think.

Mike

If you don't want to change the impeller than run the motor in a tank...or better yet launch it and find out...don't get too far from the launch till you feel reassured it being cooled properly...just a Thought

Re: chrysler 700 skeir 70 hp HELP!!!!!

Ok I took it to the lake today and it ran really good, the impeller is in good shape, it spit water out of the exhaust holes and it didnt heat up at all, but after trolling all day it died and I couldnt get it started agian so we had some arm propoltion all the way back to the boat launch. But this is the wierd thing the only way this motor will start is to start it tilted all the way up then put it in the water then it would run. but when I was in the lake it would run in the up position then when put down in the water no power and would die, SO I AM CONFUSED. But I just took off the float cover and it was full of junk so I cleaned it and it ran. but I still had to start it in the up position then tilt down and it still ran but there was no water.
So I am lost again, any one that has an idea what I am going through, Please Help!!!!
Mike

When you tilt the motor up you are draining the gas from the float bowl. You probably need to replace the needle and seat and reset your float. When you are idling you are running too rich. You may have to switch to hotter plugs if you do a lot of trolling
