Mariner 90 hp leaking oil from oil tank

I have a 94 Mariner 90hp Motor, The oil seems to be leaking out of the top of the oil tank, oil tank not overfilled, checked cap/cover not cracked, cover is screwed in tight. Can anybody help with this problem. Thanks :)

Yes. Get a new gasket and lid...comes in a kit from Merc and not too expensive. When you install it, push the lid firmly down before you start screwing it in and only screw it finger tight...don't romp on it. Then two things:<br /><br />1. Don't fill it all the way up and <br /><br />2. Don't leave your engine tilted more than you have to....like when it is stored, put the engine vertical. That will reduce the pressure on the seal. Probably don't have to do this step but what the heck. Doesn't hurt anything.<br /><br />BTDT and mine works fine now. <br /><br />Mark
