Default Fuel vent on 2005 Smokercraft 161

Hello All,

Anyone else having a problem with the thru-the-hull fuel vent? Since it extends out from the hull, I've had it break off when the boat bounced into the dock (okay -- could have been operator error).

1) is there any information on the web on how to replace the fuel tank vent? A video or pictures or perhaps an owners guide. Had the shop fix the first time I'm looking to same some money.

2) has anyone replaced it with a flush mount version? If so, which brand?

Thanks and safe boating!

I'd love to see an answer to this. Mine is cracked. Its only a matter of time before it completely breaks off....good luck!

I have a 2000 162.
The very first time I took t out I snapped the vent off on the dock.
You have to remove (partially) the drivers console and move it a few inches toward the cnter of the boat and there is a nice hole to reach through to gain acess to the vent. I replaced mine with a steel one from west marine. Do not know if Smokercraft would approve but it will never happen again.
I can walk you hrough it if you want.

I did find out while I was changing it that the inside screws out and can be changed from the outside.

Tom,

Thanks for the update.

I had the shop fix it when the boat was winterized and they put on the same plastic vent.

They charged me 2 hrs of labor -- YIKES! Later I find out there is a flush mounted model available

Anyways, I will look into moving the console and replacing the went with a stainless steel or flush mount.

I broke the outside cap (not the whole vent) earlier this year and found a replacement from Attwood for about $12.

For now I'll aviod the starboard side when approaching a pier or throw out a large bumper on that side of the boat

If you have a picture showing which screws to remove on the driver's console
could you attach them to your reply.

Safe boating!

Mike
