1998 mercruiser 4.3 head bolt tightening
hi - i have a 1998 mercruiser 4.3/alpha one - i had to pull the heads due to a broken spark plug (long story). i am reassembling, and am directed to use an angle torque gauge versus torque wrench on the head bolts (i am not a mechanic, but very handy) - anyway cannot figure this thing out (and no directions included) but speaking to a mechanic indicated that the 1996 and prior motor uses torque of 65ft lbs on the head bolts, and i should be ok with that. anyone with experience or knowledge regarding this would be a huge help.
