This spring my power trim would go up but not down. It would make a sceeching noise like how it would normally make when you bottom the trim out all the way. Anyhow i checked fluid it was fine, motor ran both ways fine, so i took trim unit off motor. Now i have replaced one valve because i damaged it, other vaves and seals on them look good. Manual let down valve and seals are good but when i put it all together (for the 5th time) it trims up and down great but the motor still drifts down all the way slowly until it can't go any more. If it's seals wich ones and if not what's the problem? PLEASE HELP FISHING SEASON IS JUST STARTING AND I NEED MY BOAT!!

Re: MOTOR LOWERS DOWN /TILT/TRIM PROBLEM

i took out my boat and like i thought when i run the motor the motor pulls down pretty fast. also the trim does not pick up the motor when going 1/4 throttle or more in forward. i tested the manual release valve and it's not the o ring (put a piece of rubber in the port and screwed the screw back in and it still drifts down) i notice a lot of foam in the fluid ( dextron 3) could the pump be bad or is their a way to get air out of pump and system? REALLY DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: MOTOR LOWERS DOWN /TILT/TRIM PROBLEM

LSSS...when you check the reservoir level, are you checking it with the engine all the way up? If not, you probably don't have enough fluid in the reservoir. This will cause the motor/pump to screech and maybe not tilt the engine at throttle above 1/4.

EDIT: When filling, add fluid to the bottom of the fill hole, cycle the engine all the way up and down 3 > 4 times and recheck level. Do this until the fluid level is stable at the bottom of the fill hole.

Re: MOTOR LOWERS DOWN /TILT/TRIM PROBLEM

i've done what you mentioned and it still drifts down. I got frustrated took it all apart and i noticed the check valve on side of motor (the longest of the four valves) had a small scatch on the surface were the oring seats against.(very small) i put it all back together and still had the drift. i noticed that when the motor is all the way up and resting on the tilt lever for a while you can actually push the trim rods in a little and if you hold on one you can move the other one by pushing on it. i beleive the one long check valve on left of motor is the problem, what do you think? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

Sounds like the unit isn't holding pressure very well....probably bleeding back to the reservoir.
You may need to take the whole shebang apart and clean it up and install an oring kit. Little bit of dirt at one of the valves can make it do this. The oring kits are a little pricey at about $52 from BRP. How did the pistion orings look?

Re: MOTOR LOWERS DOWN /TILT/TRIM PROBLEM

the orings on the pistons look good and the cylinder walls look good also. i was thinking about adding a transmition additive for restoring seals and orings in trany's. do you think this is a good idea? i got a flow chart for the system it's aliitle difficult to understand when you don't know what you're doing, but it still seams like it has to be a valve. the only valve i have not looked at is the trim up relief valve. it still seams odd that this happened after i took out trim/tilt separation valve and 3 other check valves.THANKS AGAIN FOR YOU'RE HELP!!
