Now I have problems. I have a 90 Johnson (1999 Model, V4). I was going to start the motor in my driveway and I forgot that I still had the charger hooked up. I blew the fuse right at the battery and can't find any other blown fuses (the fuse on the motor itself was not blown). Now it is doing all kinds of weird things.

The power trim will not work.
Motor won't crank at all.
When I turn the key on, the needle on the tach slowly goes in a counterclockwise motion and my voltage guage pegs out.
When I turn the key to the "on" position, my lights light up on the dash and I get a beep (like it's supposed to). Then I can turn the key to start and nothing will happen and the light on the dash go out. Turn the key again, no lights. Then if I wait 10-15 minutes I can turn the key and the lights will come back on.

I've been asking around and I've been told that I burned my starter up. I was also told that I could have shorted out the battery. Any ideas guys???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you try taking the cables off the battery and clean the terminals?

You've got a bad ground somewhere. Having the charger on while cranking should not have caused these problems although it might have opened the breaker in the charger because of the current draw. It resets automatically.

All that should of been damaged is the rectifier. If the engine fuse was blown the system check lights would not work. As for the starter that should be fine, that would have nothing to do with the trim not working. Sounds to me like a ground problem or a very bad connection. Or just a bad battery. Why did it need a charge?

Having the charger hooked up shouldn't have done anything good or bad.

The rectifier does not draw current during starting so it would not be damaged because the charger is attached. If you had the charger connected backwards and it didn't have reverse polarity protection, it is possible to do some electrical damage. If the main engine fuse is blown, neither the starter nor trim will work. Check it again. But clean your battery cable terminals (both ends). Make sure all of the electrical grounds are good. Those include starter solenoid, battery (-), and instrument cluster.

sounds more like you have a bad key start switch or burnt the ground on it, try jumping the starter solinod pull motor fuse first

also make sure your battery has a least 12.6 volts

Don't feel like a dummy. I think that all of us have been there at least once. Thanks for letting everyone know that the problem is solved.

Easy there Fireman. Haven't had a chance to mess with it until last night. Battery was shot. Bad cell. New battery, cleaned the cables and she fired right up. Thanks for all your input guys.
