Good morning. 1983 Johnson 200hp Sea-Horse. I bought some carb cleaner, ran it through per instructions. I did notice an improvement, in my yard. When out on the lake, still wont idle that long (5-8 secs) but in my driveway, I have to shut it off. I looked at my plugs, which were new a couple of weeks ago, and they looked pretty fouled, is that from the carb cleaner, and should I replace them now?

also, please look at this picture, see if it makes sense to you.

Thanks

The throttle plates should just start to open when the scribe mark on the cam aligns with the throttle roller. Yes, it should touch at that point.

Thanks Joe, I have the manual, I will try to find how to adjust that, I think it is simply 2 connections, 1 on the throttle arm, and the bolt on the side of it.

Thanks again.

Re: Still idling rough

I adjusted my idle and it seems to at least be idling a LOT better. Around 800-900rpms. I did notice something else though, and this may warrant a new post but I noticed when I tilt all the way down, it idles far, far worse, almost stalling.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Re: Still idling rough

I have 83 model johnson as well and that was one of my big questions. In idle (neutral) when I adjust my trim down it will cut off. Why?

Increased back pressure on the exhaust would be my take.

david - I was having an idle problem with my V4s. A wrench told me to tilt them out a bit. That would change the level of fuel in the float bowl just enough to solve the problem. Try it -
