Chrysler vs. Evinrude

I have the chance to buy one of two vintage outboards and I am just wondering if someone can give advice. They are both 1960's, one is a 45hp Chrysler and the other is a 40hp Evinrude. The price for the Chrysler is much better and much more in my range, but would it be worth it to buy the Evinrude instead? I am just curious if parts or service are more available for on than the other. Thanks for any advice!!

Evinrude hands down. Lots of parts available. Lots of dealers and a much better overall motor(In my opinion).. Also, If you have trouble on the water, it is much more likely that you will get the Evinrude running, as opposed to the Chrysler..

buy the chysler. support your local tech. his kids need the new shoes:) :)
but the rude, if mechanical shift and not salt water, is a decent motor.
just remember they are both antiques.
good luck and keep posting

Howdy SC.

Make that three votes for the Evinrude.

If you want to spend your time looking for and replacing parts, get the Chrysler.

If you prefer being on the water get the 'Rude.

Good luck. :)

Just had my neighbour 'donate' his chrysler to the local repair shop so they have more parts for another soul with a dead chrysler....

Get the 'rude. Running a 50 year old 7.5 everyweekend and it planes my 12' tin!
