i recently aquired a 1968 johnson super seahorse 4 cylinder 60 hp outboard with electric shift. I consulted with a local dealer, and believe in his rush to help several people at once, he sold me the wrong lower unit oil. I have never owned an outboard but am learning a lot. i trusted the recommendation he gave me and after about 12 hours running the motor i happend to catch the warning on the container that esentially stated the lube i used was intended for non-electric shift motor 1973 and newer. now i am panicking that i might have hurt the lower unit or worse. can somebody please tell me what signs i need to look for to see if any damage has been done? what damage would be done in this circumstance? for the record i cleaned everything up prior to running the moter and tuned it and it appears to me run great. like i said i am new so moving on the water is great to me.

indy,
Don't panick.Just drain the oil again and install Premium gear oil.If you have problems...rechange it again to flush it out.I don't think you can do damage, just have shifting problems.
DHP
