1984 140 vro johnson will not trim up all the way at high rpm's

My motor will not trim up at high rpm, at lower rpms she will come right out of the water(GOING DOWN IS NOT A PROBLEM)when I am pushing 7,000 rpm she will trim up to a point but thats it, I did change both relays that control the up and down movement, could it be the STATOR, no clue

Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />It has a trim limit. Once the motor is off the trim pins, it's in the tilt range. It's supposed to do what it's doing. It's unusual to be able to trim a motor that far under thrust without the prop grabbing air. You may have a weak transom or you may need transom wedges to compensate for an odd transom angle and get you some more positive trim.

If I read your post right ,it sounds like the hydraulics of the trim unit can't overcome the increased downforce of the engine at rpm.One easy thing you could check first is to insure that the manual release screw/valve is seated.Otherwise the T/T unit will need servicing.<br /><br />Does that engine turn 7000 plus at wide open throttle?If so ,I'd be looking at repropping or troubleshooting a faulty tach.

My engine turns about 7,500-7,900 at full throttle<br />ok according to my OMC mechanic I should be able to trim my motor up so the boat will bounce in the water at high speeds, its not doing that the only way the motor will trim up exta high is at lower speeds say 10-20 mph. Wide open throttle say 49-50 mph she will trim up so far then stop. Is that normal no clue

Why would you want to bounce at high speeds? I use my t/t to level out to adjust for wave action or uneven load fore and aft so I want bounce.

Okay Shayne, I haven't seen your boat or how your motor is set up, and I have no idea why you would want to bounch your boat, But, to tell if your tilt &trim is working right take your boat out and run full speed. Trim the motor out til the trim stops. Don't touch the trim again and shut the boat down and kill the motor. Now, you get where you can see the tilt & trim rams. While you are looking at them have someone hit the up trim switch. If you motor limmediately leaves the 2 trim rams and raises on up on the center tilt ram then there is nothing wrong with your T&T. That's how its supposed to work like WillyBWright said.

Shayne, your engine has 2 different hydraulic lift circuits, 1 does the tilt and the other does the trim. If everything is set correctly, than at rest or slow speed the engine will trim and than tilt all the way to almost horizontal but at speed when there is a lot of pressure against the prop as its pushing the boat through the water the trim cylinders are strong enough to push against this pressure but the tilt cylinder is not. The trim rams will give you your normal trim travel but when they have reached their limit that’s it! The tilt ram will not lift the engine simply because it’s not strong enough to overcome the hp being pushed through the prop. It’s also a safety measure so that inexperienced boaters can’t over trim the engine at high speed.
