    Propeller Pitch Selection

The oem motor was the 5.7L 2brl, 210HP at prop. If I recall correctly, it touched on 51mph. I added vortec heads, dual plane, 4brl. GM/Merc roller cam, etc. I figured it was equivelent to the 5.7L EFI Gen+. Sold it last year and replaced it with a pontoon boat. 1st grand child was born...

    Propeller Pitch Selection

I'd agree that you are running slowish for 300hp, comparing to my 1997 2050 Capri w/5.7L - 280hp@prop. It could touch on 60mph with a 14.25X21P Black Max. It would probably get a few more with the right SS prop. It had an Alpha G2 1.47 gear ratio. My hull is narrower and has more V than...

    battery charger alternative

FWIW: I use a 10X2 on the trolling motor batteries, to make sure they will be fully charged overnight, for the 2nd day of fishing. I use a 5X1 on the starter battery, which is typically still near full charge after a day of fishing. If your batteries are not located together, then two...

Prop pitch for 150xp crossflow on pontoon

My 22' pontoon with 150 Merc came stock with an Enertia 15.6" X 13P prop. Don't know your gear ratio, but most pontoons run with a 11P - 15P props. Too many variables to think you will get it perfect on the first guess. As others have said you are going to have to pick one to test with. Get...

    Big differences, same power?

While most of the displacement difference is in the bore, the stroke is slightly different. I suspect a different block than the prior years. Yes, mfgs used the same block for different hp rated motors. Restrictor plates, carb sizes or jetting, and timing, are how many manipulated the hp...

    Big differences, same power?

I have a 1963 Evinrude 10hp Sportwin that is the same displacement as a 1997 Nissan 18hp that I had. In general, older motors had more displacement than newer ones of same hp. In general, the newer ones develop the hp at higher rpm’s. If the mfgs published torque specs, you would see torque...

    Nissan or Mercury?

Look at running a lower pitch prop. It will take more rpm to reach the same speed. Drop 2-3” of pitch, maybe more. Agree with above, sounds like the Honda is running very rich at idle. 2-strokes will tend to oil foul running long periods at or near idle. I’d stay with the Honda.

    Nissan or Mercury?

I believe 2-stroke models that are still sold to other country’s can be still obtained by Tohatsu dealers.

    Nissan or Mercury?

I've had a couple of 2 stroke nissans, one of which was a '97 18E, also '98 25 Merc. Don't have hands on of either of the particular models you requested. I do know that some models of the Nissan/Tohatsu's are becoming hard to find parts for. If you are leaning that way, make sue it isn't...

    Jet Engine vs Mud motor

I have a 90/65 Yamaha jet on a 17' G3 flatbottom, but it has a tunnel for it. You can find allot of jet info on this site: Outboard Jets They make all the jet pumps for the major outboard brands. Your boat will need modifications, such as a taller transom. No experience with a mud motor...

Pontoon boat for 25hp Merc, 2 Stroke

That 25hp wasn't made for high thrust, which is what is needed on a pontoon. The Merc Bigfoot/Command Thrust have a larger gearcase to deal with that. You would also need to find the lowest pitch prop available to even try it. Most will be rubber hubbed, and will fail quickly in very high...

Low RPM on a new outboard...All suggestions welcome

The Merc operations manual would have had the break-in procedure. On my new 150, for the first few hours, had to go to wot for a minute, every 10 or so. Hope that isn't the OPs problem.

Low RPM on a new outboard...All suggestions welcome

    How to Remove Brass?

Glad you got it on. Yes, grease the shaft. Most motors it is part of the yearly maintenance.

    hp. for pontoons

Given the number of people and tubing requirements, go for 100% of mfg max rating.

Double Cup or not, on a pontoon?

Zoro had the Rubex 3 16 X 11P double cup (9501-155-11DC) for $112 w/shipping. I think I'm going to try it. Worse case, I need a spare prop.

Double Cup or not, on a pontoon?

Just trying to get close. Also considering having the Enertia reworked to a 12 pitch. Not sure I'll find a good prop shop though.

Double Cup or not, on a pontoon?

I'd like to be in the upper rpm range with the light load so that it will still be in its range with a heavy one. Not many choices in 12P.

Double Cup or not, on a pontoon?

I meant Rubex 3 props, not Amita 3. Sorry.

    Bimini control problem

It does have a cool factor, when you can stand back on the dock and raise/lower it.
