Sears outboard needs a fuel line...

I found an old Sears outboard in the shed last fall. And now that it's getting nice out, I thought I'd see if it works. Only problem is, I can't get it fuel, because I don't have a fuel line for it. And noone local can help me out on this either. I pulled the cord, and the engine moved with...

    I find it odd...

That the 2 senators from my state are going to be at my college today, and the only thing I've heard of it was about an hour ago, when one of my professors mentioned it. Even said the college hasn't made a big deal about it. Well why the crap not? I think it's a big deal, if BOTH of your...

    Sen. Kerry's recent blunder...

Uh, what was he thinking? Whether or not he meant to insult the troops, he screwed the pooch on that statement. It certainly doesn't come off as a botched joke on the President, and I don't see how the White House is spinning his words on this one(like he just said in a live statement).

    I wanna know...

How many of you that have gripes about the "current administration" have bothered to write your Congressman/Senator to tell them of your gripes. In general, I get the impression everyone likes to complain about the government(we all certainly hear alot of complaints about the Bush admin), but...

An elephant, a mariachi band, and our border...

Anyone catch the little bit about the guy that paid for an elephant and a mariachi band? Down in Texas, he played in the Rio Grande river for 90 minutes, on top of an ELEPHANT, with a mariachi band playing on shore, and NOT ONE border patrol agent showed up to question him. Absolutely...

The Police(nazi) state I live in...

Ok, so I live near Chicago, and it's snowing today. At least it was. Low 30s most of today, up to 40F as a high. So, I figure since the boat is still sitting on the lift in the river, it's probably time to take the boat out now. I go hook up the trailer, grab the row boat in the yard, and...

    Overcharging

While out in the boat a couple times over the past month, I noticed the voltmeter go up to what I gather to be 16-17V. This is on an 85 170 engine I think.. the kind without a seperate alternator. Is the voltage regulator built into the alternator/crank thing? I haven't put a multimeter to...

    Sad news in my area...

This is a relative of a friend, though I don't personally know the person involved. Happened in the next town over from me though. Rather unfortunate: Link to story There's a few more stories on this out there(obviously), some of which comment on the fact that there hasn't been a shooting in...

    The Right Perspective

[I believe this is about a year old, and found it to be an interesting read, that was forwarded to me via email] Things that make you think a little........ There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during January.... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of...

    Almost capsized today!

I was out in my friends boat, pulling a tube. Turned around to pick up the person that fell off. Nothing special about the turn, done a turn just like it a million times before. But all of a sudden, the starboard side is riding the water, and I started to get a little bit of water in. Felt...

    Pontoon boat prop/outboard position help

It's a 2000(ish) pontoon boat, with a 40hp Johnson on the back. He's a fairly large guy, and has some larger friends. The boat is ok with just his family on it(wife and one kid), but when it's a bunch of adults, he doesn't like the way the boat feels. Too slow I guess. He'd LIKE an 80hp 4...

    Adding locker to swim platform

Would I be safe in assuming, that you mean a fiberglass platform? If so, the best option would be to grind away some of the coating underneath, until you get bare fiberglass. Then glass in a tub(of fiberglass) under there for storage. Access to it would depend on the design of the platform.

    Tach not right

Some tachs have a switch on the back, to set it for a 4/6/8 cylinder engine. But that's probably about all you can do to calibrate it.

    Fat boat?

So, I weighed my truck with friends boat/trailer the other day. Came in at 7150lbs. Today I weighed the truck and trailer, came in at 4200 lbs.

That tells me the boat is about 2900lbs. The trailer it sits on, which was built in 1984(boat is an 85 model), has a rating of 2400lbs.<br...

    Merc trim problem(maybe/maybe not)

    It's an 85 Merc I/O, I believe a 170 engine. Don't think it's an alpha one outdrive, as I didn't see the alpha one on it(friends boat).

When I trim in all the way, while under power, the boat doesn't feel right to me. It almost feels like the outdrive is starting to go under the...

    Boat lift question

So I have this boat lift, 2000 lb capacity. It's an older Shorestation, steel cantilever design, with canopy.

Currently, my friend's boat is on the lift. Well, it was, until the cable snapped the other day. I found out today WHY it snapped, and it's because of a sharp 'tooth' in...
