How to test bonding/grounding using a multimeter

Checking for continuity (or lack thereof) doesn't matter what probe goes where. Set the DVM to a mid- to higher range. Make sure the probes aren't touching anything and the meter will show whatever it represents for infinity. Touch the two probes together and it will go to 0 ohms. This is a test...

Looking for part number to buy a red OMC/Johnson remote tilt/trim switch on throttle handle

I took a chance. As I suspected, the bottom picture is the correct wiring for the tilt/trim switch. It's in and working. Saved me at least $140, or more if I would have replaced the whole control box.

Looking for part number to buy a red OMC/Johnson remote tilt/trim switch on throttle handle

I did end up buying the switch I linked to on Amazon. I think I know, but should ask before I set the boat on fire by a wiring problem.... The instructions that came with the switch aren't great. It shows how to connect a light and a winch. I'm assuming the winch would be the correct way, but...

Looking for part number to buy a red OMC/Johnson remote tilt/trim switch on throttle handle

I should have called the dealer first. They said the switch has been discontinued for a long time and the only option they have is to put in a new control box at $500-600. I guess that's why the switches I saw on eBay were $150. I might look into a different option - putting in a dash-mounted...

Looking for part number to buy a red OMC/Johnson remote tilt/trim switch on throttle handle

The tilt/trim up side of the switch on the throttle control handle is broken and doesn't work. It's definitely the switch. I'm not sure of a part number or what to get as a replacement. It's from a 1992 Glastron w/Johnson 90hp outboard. The switch is red with an arrow in the up and down...

Not sure where to mount Faria Temp Sender on my '91 90-HP Johnson

Thanks for the reply. I really don't see anywhere higher or another location to mount it. There's not much surface area near the head bolts. Is it acceptable to mount it on the side of the cylinder instead of the head? The instructions say to use a head bolt for mounting, but the picture...

Not sure where to mount Faria Temp Sender on my '91 90-HP Johnson

I bought a Faria Temperature Gauge and wanted to install it on my '91 90-HP Johnson 2-stroke. The instructions say to remove a head bolt and make sure the surface if tight/flat against the cylinder head. It appears there's some other cover (water jacket?) on the outside of the cylinder head...

    Replacing Impeller/water pump - a couple questions.

So, it just sits loose in place and the lower unit should just be easily pushed flush with the upper part with no struggles? And, if it rocks back and forth from the center area, is there anything else that can cause that? It's not rocking from closer to the edge - such as the driveshaft or...

    Replacing Impeller/water pump - a couple questions.

I have a 1991 (or is it 1992?) Johnson 90HP outboard - model J90TLAIE. I had the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago and haven't replaced the impeller since that time. We don't use the boat much anymore. I'd guess it has less than 200 hours on it since it was rebuilt 10 years ago. Maybe less...

    Johnson 90hp starter problems

I don't have the usual "starter won't engage" type problem. Actually, it's the opposite. 1990 or 1992 Johnson 90hp - not exactly sure which it is. Most of the time, the starter works fine. Here's the problems I've had the last couple years - including an incident yesterday: When starting the...

Adding Ski Pylon to boat - Glastron fish/ski

I posted this on the Glastron forum, but it doesn't get much traffic so.... I was wondering if anyone has added a ski pylon to any Glastron fish/ski boat (outboard) and their opinions. I was checking them out - the Swivel-Eze seems to be a popular one. It says you need access under the...

1990 Fish/Ski and adding Ski Pylon

I was wondering if anyone has added a ski pylon to any Glastron fish/ski boat (outboard) and their opinions.<br /><br />I was checking them out - the Swivel-Eze seems to be a popular one. It says you need access under the pedestal base for access. Is the back deck on one of these boats strong...

I greased my starter and now it just spins

1990 Johnson 90hp. Recently rebuilt. The previous owner replaced the starter with a rebuilt.<br /><br />I was having trouble with the starter gear (bendix?) or whatever it's called - the one that pops up - sticking occasionally. I greased it with some white lithium grease.<br /><br />The next...

    SS prop pricing on iboats

I see a variety of pricing on iboats for a SS prop in the size I need. Is there a big difference in quality between these? What about performance? <br /><br /> http://www.boat-props.com/propellers/s/chart-18/pitch-19.00/manufacturer-Johnson/rotation-Standard/horsepower-90/year-1990/index.html...

Advice please, rebuild, used or new?

Bad news from the shop about my 1992 Johnson 2-stroke 90HP V-4 outboard. He said cylinder 3 leakdown test? is 50% and cylinder 4 is 25% (it may have been the other way around). He said 15% is the most you want to see. He suggested it may have been a thermostat problem but that's a guess.<br...

    antique motors - price?

I have a couple old motors I'm going to put in a garage sale. Can anyone give me an opinion how much to ask? I realize you can't see them or hear them run, but I'll explain them the best I can.<br /><br />1. 1948 Martin '60' (not 60hp - it says 7.2hp on the ID tag)<br />Runs pretty good, could...

    Raymarine depth finder temp problem

I have a new/refurbished (with original warranty) Raymarine L365. It has temp, speed and fishfinder.<br /><br />The first time I used it, everything worked fine. The next time I used it, the temperature was stuck on 32F. I tried changing it to Metric and it says 0C. I did a reset to defaults...

Mounting Transducer plate to fiberglass boat, glue or screw?

I'll be installing a small transducer mounting plate to my Glastron boat and ? if I should use the screws that came with the plate, or if I should glue/epoxy/silicone the plate to the transom?<br /><br />I was also told, to reduce spider cracks in the fiberglass, after drilling the holes for the...
