    Upholstery Question 1

Alright, that is exactly what they did; they put the 1/4-20 screw through the plywood, tightened a nut against that, ran it through the fiberglass and tightened that down with a nut and fender washer. Stresspoint and others, I hope this helps you out!

    Upholstery Question 1

Alright! Z brackets, huh? I will have to see if I can find anything to support that. The only thing that makes me question this are the lack of metal z brackets on the exposed starboard side where the panel has come off leaving just the heads of the machine screws visible but I am...

    Upholstery Question 1

Is anyone familiar with how they may have installed these side panels at the factory? It almost appears as though they installed the plywood first using 1/4-20 x 2 inch machine screws and then stapled the foam and upholstery on afterwards but this does not seem reasonable. All they plywood...

    Drain Plug Stuck

I have a 1977 Leisure Island pontoon and unfortunately the drain plug for both of the pontoons is seized in place. We even used an uncomfortable amount of force to try and free the plugs with a pipe wrench, to no avail. There is currently water in the pontoons and I would like very much to get...

F_R i am glad to hear that. Someone above made the comment that water drains out of these engines all over the place and that certainly seems to be true.

    1981 85 Seahorse Water Intrusion

Update: I just rechecked the oil. It has been sitting since Wednesday evening. It would appear that I simply checked it improperly (by checking it immediately after turning off the engine and not letting the gear oil settle) and overreacted...oops. The oil is definitely not milk shake-y or...

    1981 85 Seahorse Water Intrusion

Jimmbo, Thank you for the reply. I checked the oil using the lower (drain?) screw, no water came out before I ran it and it was immediately the milkshake stuff when I checked it the second time but this was immediately after I had turned off the motor as well. I will double check the oil now...

    1981 85 Seahorse Water Intrusion

So Grandpa bought a boat... More specifically Grandpa bought a pontoon that has a Johnson 1981 Seahorse 85. He has never used the boat in the 5 years that he has owned it but would like to, and so I am getting it all prepped. About 2 years ago he had a mechanic go through the engine for him...

    Seat Restoration

Can anyone tell me what this mounting hardware is called? Unfortunately I did not think to get a picture of them as installed but the seats have a threaded insert built into the plywood seat bottom and the pictured hardware screws into the seat and then passes through the fiberglass the...

Need help, having trouble removing sterndrive - Volvo Penta setup

Success! I was, however, unable to remove the bolt from the shield behind the gear housing. I even had an impact on it and it would not budge. What I ended up doing was removing the bolts that held said shield to the steering mechanism Since I had previously removed the intermediate...

Need help, having trouble removing sterndrive - Volvo Penta setup

Gentlepeople, I am removing the motor and lower unit from my Glastron V164 to provide access to the floor and bulkhead areas so that I can make repairs to the rotten wood that is there. It comes equipped with a Volvo-Penta AQ130C motor and a Volvo-Penta AQ170 lower unit. I am...

    Electric Starter Motor Question

I'm trying to track down the manufacturer of a starter motor. Part of the original tag is missing, what remains is "-reimers" and the serial number (8D147). Any idea who the manufacturer is? The starter motor is off of my '59 Mercury Mark 55A which I removed because it is locked up...

    What is this doohickey?

Since working on my boat is out of the question (the boat is being stored an hour away and I am strapped for cash) I thought I would ask a question that has me befuddled: What is this thing? There is a cable attached to it that runs to the dash...is this for the speedometer? The only...
