    Skeg guard Pre Alpha One

Can anyone suggest which skeg guard i should purchase for my outdrive? There seem to be quite a few models to choose from. My boat is a 1965 Starcraft Cheiftain with a Mercruiser 120hp which I believe still has the Pre Alpha outdrive.

They are all beat and need replacement. I have attached a pic of one of them. The other is a much deeper...

Question on Very Old stern drive

I have what I think may be an original mercruiser stern drive and the upper and lower gear oil oil chambers are two separate chambers. When I checked the upper chamber this afternoon (after draining the lower) I heard air being sucked in as if it where under a vacuum. I decided I should remove...

I recently purchased a VHF marine radio at the boat show over the winter. Where would you suggest I mount a VHF antenna on this boat? What model antenna would you recommend? Thanks :)

    VHF and GPS compatibility.

Just completed our VHF course and plan on buying a radio at this winters boat show. I am hoping my current GPS is compatible with the new DSC radios. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 76 and am considering this radio, a STANDARD HORIZON GX1600 Explorer. According to the users manual my GPS will recieve...

Looking to purchase a VHF marine radio

Looking to purchase a VHF marine radio. I have seen many decently priced older used radios but they dont have that new "Distress Button" function. My understanding is that soon the monitoring of channel 16 is no longer go to be in effect. Is buying an older radio that does not have the...

    1965 Starcraft Cheiftain

Re: 1965 Starcraft Cheiftain Found some time this weekend to make some progress on the Cheiftian. I want it completed and in the water by May. Has been to cold to do much here but this Sunday was beautiful. Added some aluminum angle as bracing to the existing supports and added a couple of...

    1965 Starcraft Cheiftain Interior Restoration

Well winter is almost here so the interior refurbishing is getting started. The "Rip & Tear" stage is the most fun. :) Removing the old rotten floor boards and relocating the door to the center so I can have two pilot seats side by side. Hopefully also open up some room for some additional...

    1965 Starcraft Cheiftain

Re: 1965 Starcraft Cheiftain With winterization in progress I figured this would be a good time for an update. I finally did get the motor to run properly in fact it was purring like a kitten. Took the boat out for an hour or two down the Severn River and all was good. I did notice a funny...

    Clunking from outdrive when turning.

1965 Starcraft Cheiftian 120 hp mercruiser. Very loud repeating clunk or bang from outdrive when making turns. The tighter the turn the louder the clunk. Will shake the entire stern of the boat. The tighter the wheel is turned the louder and stronger this clunking becomes. When we first set...
