    Paragon to Velvet drive swap

Thank you for the info! That definitely makes more sense. I really do not like a rh engine, huge pain. As far as diesel goes, I’d love to but just can’t justify that large of a cost. I like the boat however more importantly my wife loves it lol. I have restored a number of boats so definitely...

    Paragon to Velvet drive swap

I am aware of the challenges with the rh motor, I am actually an automotive tech so very familiar with engines. My biggest question is the Paragon trans. Is it worth the work involved to get rid of them and switch to velvet drives. I have not heard or read many good things about the paragons.

    Paragon to Velvet drive swap

Extremely long story short (as possible) one of the motors (both purchased new in 1994) was a counter rotating engine. The p.o. had the engines rebuilt by local marina in 2020. At that time the shop assembled both engines as standard rotation on accident. This was not caught until priming oil...

    Paragon to Velvet drive swap

The boat I will be taking the velvet drives out of has two right hand props on it. I realize I can change the input rotation on the velvet drives but I don’t think the output is able to be changed. On the Chris Craft I definitely want counter rotating props so unfortunately I’d have to make one...

Front deck core replacement from inside does this sound ok ??? With photos

I am going to be replacing deck core on my 35’ Chris craft. Wondering if you started your project yet? I was going to go from the top but if this method worked it would be much less fairing.

    Paragon to Velvet drive swap

Wondering if anyone has done a swap from paragon to velvet drives? I have a 1976 Chris Craft 35’ aft cabin that I am thinking of doing the swap. The boat currently has flywheel forward mounted 350’s with paragon drives, about 1800 hours. I have a set of 1996 crusader 5.7 with velvet drives...

    Re Power question

I'm looking to re power my 16 foot Starcraft aluminum open bow. It currently has a mercury 70hp (with bad cyl). It is rated for 90hp max. I have found a 35hp mercury with trim/tilt or a 90hp Force. I like the idea of weight savings with 35 but worried about being under powered. I like the power...

    1990 70hp merc no compression

My wife surprised me Father's Day with a boat sitting in the driveway. That's the good part. While out today it was hard starting and would not stay running, that's the bad. Could hear uneaven compression when it was cranking, pulled plugs and found middle cyl to have 0 compression. Whith that...

    Mercruiser 260 shift interrupter

Shifting into reverse my engine dies due to shift interrupter roller staying on top of the cam. There is no issue going forward or coming out of gear, which from what I've read indicates lower cable is ok. The barrel on lower cable is set at 6 inches in forward. The boat is new to me this year...

    1977 Cruisers hole in hull

A bad end to salmon fishing trip last Friday. Going to start repair this weekend. Just want to run my plan of attack by here, any suggestions welcome to improve my idea. Going to start by grooving out the cracks to get the hull as close as possible back to where it was. Thinking two layers...

    Trolling Plate

I have a 1977 OMC 190hp that I use for trolling salmon, in order to get it to desired speed I use a Happy Troller plate on the outdrive. Do these add any unwanted stress to the outdrive? (lower unit, gears ect) Thanks for the input

    Stringer revs doesnt move/wont cool

I have a 1977 190hp stringer. Sunday on the way in the engine free reved and would not cool. Was able to do about 1200 rpm without it slipping and got back in. It slips in reverse and forward also when the engine was brought down in RPM so we could move it cooled fine. Lower unit was new...

    Kicker Engine fuel tank relocation

I am looking at putting my kicker fuel tank in the ski locker. I realize that it will need to be vented then. I am planning on adding a blower for this compartment and running a fresh air hose in also. Is this a bad idea or with the vents should this be fine? I am on the fence and am looking...

    Fillets???

I am to the point of putting in the stringers this weekend. My question is are the fillets there for any other purpose than to lay the glass or do they add needed support? I have about a gallon of Tiger Hair that I am thinking of using for the fillets to save on the resin and to just use it...

I have looked in the manual but cant seem to find it, does anyone have a pic or can they explain the correct plug wire routing for the spark plug wires on my engine. The PO has them just kind of lying all over the place, the engine is out right now and I would like to correct this.

    1979 Cruisers Beachcomber Holiday

Hi all I am going to be doing a partial restore on my new to me 1979 Cruisers Holiday. The PO had a new long block installed but there is still a fair amount of mechanical issues. I just got done putting in a new gimbal ring, boots, shift cable, gimbal bearing, and water pump. Now that I have...
