    19's or 21's on 26 mako with twin 200 mercs?

    New replacement rod not same weight as original

    rebuilding a '79 3 cyl. 70 horse,had to replace a rod,noticed it's not same weight (or appearance) as original.It is an OMC part.I was told they did away with the oil holes in top hole in'88, new oil design,weight isn't an issue.I know they match piston weights,why not rod? I like things...

    is piston wear normal vs. bore wear?

    tearing down an engine for rebuild we found the bores to be only .001 worn over spec(3.00"),but the pistons gave a measurment that put cylinder/bore clearance way out by several thous.Is it normal for the piston to wear vs.bore?No signs of scuffing,etc at all.I need to get the exact measure of a...

    Vent plug RPM changes on Mirage prop

    Anyone know how many RPM changing from a solid "vent" plug to a small and large hole plug occurs on a Mirage prop? Turns 5K with solid plug on a 225 HP 23'Mako.These plugs are in the prop body for this purpose.

    anyone familiar with bypassing the rotational and oil resevoir devices after removing oil pump on a Merc 200 EFI? may be as simple as placing a jumper on the right terminal points or lifting a wire. I'm guessing these are normally closed held open contacts. Diagram looks like blu/wht& wht...

    Went to replace a plug wire on a 225 johnson,bought an automotive packard wire type instead of making up a marine one.The shop claims it will not fire the plug properly,can't use.Any confirmation?

    Ok to run Merc 200 V-6 with water relief poppet valve bypassed?

    Built a really nice and tight(135# compression)Merc v-6 I'm breaking in easy in barrell. Found a binding relief valve( no flow thru it,seems clean and loose,don't trust it) too be cause of overheating.Running with the sealing washer removed ok?,this valve seems to run open on my other engines...

    Excessive fuel use on new rebuild startup/breakin

    Did a complete rebuild on a Merc 200 v-6 carb mid 90's offshore outboard.One hole resleeved professionally,new pistons,etc.Motor is spitting fuel out of the bleed hoses and oil tank pressuring fitting on block(injection removed)Carbs were fitted with new bowl float valves only,nothing else...

    Reliability of Boyesen reeds

    Any one have any input on the reliability of using Boyesen reeds in place of Merc stainless for recreational outboard use? I wonder if they are more prone to cracking or splitting.If they do fail I imagine you can still run to get in,I doubt it would shut you down.Can't afford to break In middle...

    turning reed petals over for re-use

    Anyone know exactly why Merc says DO NOT turn intake reed petals over that are raised up off of reed box? As long as they are not cracked and lay flat it seems ok.My guess is it might increase the opening tension and decrease fuel flow.
