Throttle linkage on 1992 Mariner 115 hp

I was checking my throttle linkages and noticed that the bracket holding the cable to the motor has been adjusted right up to the end of its travel and I need to tighten it up some more. The threaded piece that is held to the motor is very loose in where it is held to the motor case causing a...

Testing timing on 1992 Mariner 115 hp

Its finally time to check my timing. My Seloc manual says to checking the idle and WOT timing while cranking with the ignition leads grounded to the engine. What is a good way to ground all 4 cylinder leads?

I guess the other choice is to check timing at true idle and at speed in...

What's the biggest motor you have ever pull started?

This might belong in stupid human tricks but my boat would not start after 3 weeks of being idle. The relay clicked like a bad battery so I charged it. No luck. I always laughed at the emergency rope inside the hood of my 115 Mariner 4 cyl. As if anyone could pull start this thing cold I...

92 115 Mariner - How does the 2+2 cylinder operation work

My 92 115 Mariner runs on 2 cylinders below 2000 RPM. The top 2 kick in only above 2000 RPM. How is this accomplished? Can it be bypassed?

My other question is this, if the carbs are halting fuel delivery to those cylinders, how are they lubricated while not firing?

Fuel stabilizer or drain carbs for long storage periods

I am thinking way ahead to winter here. I have always used fuel stabilizer and I have never drained the carbs in my boat. I was just wondering what most people do.

How do you protect your trailer w/ boat

I bought something called a hitch Gorilla which sits over the front of the receiver and keeps someone from hitching on. I also keep the hitch lever locked too. I realized that someone could just unbolt the receiver and use their own so I welded the receiver to the neck of the trailer. I also...

    92 Mariner trim repair questions

I have given up on repairing it myself. I have replaced every O ring and check ball but the system still leaks down too fast for the pump to keep up under drive. I have narrowed the problem down to the actual pump, the motor and cylinder are fine.

The local marinas seem unwilling to...

92 Mariner trim won't hold up

My engine trim has always bled down really slowly requiring me to trim up a little every few minutes or so. This year all of a sudden it can't drive the boat without the motor getting forced down. Sitting still it can lift and lower fine but under a load it gets driven down.

The...

    Launching safety

Whenever I launch my boat, the kids and my wife are made to get out of the van. I can't stand the thought of an accident happening where my kids might roll into the lake in my vehicle. I also lower both front windows as I back in case I have to swim for it. You never know.

What do...

    Inflatable above ground Pools

I am looking for companies the make above ground pools but inflatable. I know Zodiac make one. Just to be clear I want a large 25 foot by 4-5 foot deep type of pool, hopefully oval in shape. I definitey want inflatable.

    Composite Props

I have a 17' Regal. I was reading the Regal use Comprops as factory issue. They are certainly cheap to buy. My lake has no hidden dangers in it and I will never smack the prop on anything where I use it. Would a four blade be a good alternative to an aluminum prop?

    Anyone have an Airchair?

I have been thinking of building a hydrofoil thingy to ride on behind my boat now for several years. Lo and behold I found this Airchair after searching for Foil Surf boards after seeing them on TV. Does anyone have either of these things, they look really cool. I would love to try one.

I want to build a water slide

The land at my cottage has the perfect slope for about 50' and ends up in water the perfect depth. All I need to find is a cheap source of large pipes. I plan to cut them in half and support them from spreading open with wooden frames. I plan on using a spare jet pump to keep water flowing down...

What is the best type of trailer light

Its hit or miss as to whether my lights will work reliably or not. My current light flood and drain through big holes no water stays in the fixture. However the contacts crud up and the lights get dimmer all the time.

Is there a truly sealed light out there that stays dry?

1992 Mariner 115hp Warning Module Failed

My alarm went off all of a sudden today. The alarm will not stop and its ear splitting.

After a lot of poking around and studying my SELOC manual I think the manual is wrong. It claims the temp sensor should be closed until it overheats and then goes open. I studied the wiring and...

    1985 Johnson V6 150 Idle Mixture

A friend just bought a boat with a 1985 150 VRO Johnson motor. It runs okay at cruise and WOT but idles badly. It definitely sounds lean, it shakes and misses.

We looked at the carbs pretty closely but there does not seem to be any idle mixture screws anywhere. We took the airbox...

    Pontoon boat problem

This happened to a friend who is not boat knowledgeable. The whole extended family rents a pontoon boat for a day of fun. The boat is heavily loaded with about 8 people and tons of gear. While cruising the kids decide to sit with their legs in the water at the front between the pontoons (this...

    Old outboards rated differently?

I pulled up to my local launch and there was a gut with a late 80's Bayliner Capri that was incredibly beat up. My neighbor has the same boat with a Force 85hp on it. This guy has an ancient 140 hp Johnson. He tells me the ditched the 85 when it died and that it performed just as well as the...

Is a stainless prop worth the money?

I have a 19'Regal with a Mariner 115 O/B. I use a 19" pitch prop and the boat will just do 42-43 mph with the engine at 5400 RPM. I have been told that a stainless prop will get me out of the hole faster and add a little top end. If the aluminum prop is flexing down to an effectively lower...

    I hate my trailer

I have a 17' Regal O/B. My trailer is an EasyLoad'r (spelling?) There are 2 keel rollers at the front. Whenever I try to float the boat at all going in, the keel moves off to the side of the rollers and gets chewed by the brackets. I seem to have to roll the boat in with 2 inches of the tires...
