I am stumped on a problem I ran into yesterday when putting on a lower unit on a late 70's model 20 hp motor. I bought a used parts motor that had a supposedly good lower unit awhile back, I removed the lower unit frome the parts motor and put on new water pump etc, replaced lu fluid etc and...

    Polishing Aluminum on Lonestar

I have been trying to find a good way to polish the aluminum on a Lone Star aluminum boat, short of buying Nuvite ($90 for coarse, med, & fine) polishing creme. I have been working my tail off cleaning then polishing with fair results but not to my liking. I am currently first cleaning with a...

My 1959 Lone Star Saratoga and question

Just purchased today in South Carolina. I am going to mirror finish this boat and KEEP it! I love those old Lone Stars! Sadly some previous owner had cut the transom for a 15" motor but I will repair this nicely. The hull is in remarkably good shape for it's age and thank goodness no one painted...

    Treated plywood on new Starcrafts?

I visited the Starcraft site and noticed on their detailed construction that they are using TREATED plywood on their new model aluminum boats. I have read many no-no's from fellow Starcraft projectors that say do not use it. Are you guys referring to the "older" treated plywood or the "newer"...

    Need help to Identify Manufacturer

I bought this old boat from a neighbor. It has a faded decal on the side that has "Cherokee" on each rear side. I think that is the model not the manufacturer. I have read on the net that Ranger made some "cherokee" boats but I think this is too old of a boat to be a Ranger. There are 2 tags...

1985 Monark model 1472 Jon Boat

These are some pictures of my Monark 1472 wide bottom jon boat. I really love this boat for fishing and it is very stable in rough water. Believe it or not, it is rated for a 45HP motor! The 20 HP Mercury I have on it pushes it very well as is and it is great on gas! A+ on a limited fishing...

Help please Mercury 25 HP Twin/Mark 28? Foot Removal?

I have an old antique Mercury 25 HP Twin motor that looks exactly like a Mark 28 Super Hurricane, but my serial number does not co-incide with the numbers for a Mark 28. My serial number is: 1498212. Mine has the "automatic" transmission just like the Mark 28 and mine also says "Super Hurricane"...

Merc 35 HP 1986 model, lower end crankcase cover

Has anyone ever removed the lower crankcase cover on a 2 cylinder 35 HP motor without completely splitting the crankcase? I need to remove mine to put in new lower seals. I was thinking that I might loosen about 4 of the lower crankcase bolts then remove the bolts on the cover and see if it will...

    Merc 1962 25HP Twin

I just bought 2 old white cloud painted 25HP twin motors in a lot deal. My manuals only go back to 1964 and I have not worked on this model before but I am told they are a real booger to put a water pump in. Supposedly an "automatic" type lower unit from what I have read. Has anyone changed the...

    Salt deposits on motor exterior

I just purchased a 35 mercury tiller that has been run in salt water. There are some exterior deposits on a few places. The serial number is: OB164041 I can't find that serial number under the 15HP listings on any of your links at the top of the page, but I can go to US Boat Supply and look up parts for a 15 HP with...

Mercury 20HP Idle relief plate question

I have a 1980 model Mercury 20 HP, serial 5610105. Motor runs great and pumps water good and a good pee stream. Motor does not run hot but I noticed it does not spit water from the two exaust ports on the upper drive shaft housing like my 1973 model 20 hp does. Is there a reason for concern...

Today I purchased a 1978 Merc 1150, serial 4754100. Motor had been robbed of the fuel pump before I got it. The fuel pump assy is part number 66530A 2 (discontinued).
