    WOT at 5,000 rpms

I have a 20' Aquasport with a Johnson 112. The motor is tuned, hull is clean, bilge is dry, usually about 25 gals. of fuel and some fishing gear. Yesterday I ran it for about a mile WOT and the tach set dead on 5,000 rpms. The motor is set on the transom as it was setup from the dealer. It has...

    WOT at 5,000 rpms

I have a 20' Aquasport CC with a Johnson 112. It runs really great at all sppeeds. WOT is dead-on 5,000 rpms. It has a 3 blade aluminum prop with 17 pitch. My question is, should the rpms be closer to 5,500? Do you recommend a lower pitch, say a 15 or 16? Or am I good as it is? Thanks

    Boat will not plane

This sounds so stupid it might just be true. A family bought their first boat. About a 20 footer with a 200 hanging on the back. They had never been in a boat much less operated one. They picked it up from the dealer and headed to the lake for their first outing. After getting the boat in the...

    Pulling lower unit

I want to pull the lower unit of my 1996 Johnson 112. Since I purchased the rig used, I have no idea what condition the water pump is in and I'd hate to be 10-15 miles offshore and have it go. I have a Seloc manual and everything looks like a straightforward procedure. The only concern I have...

    Battery switch

I recently purchased my boat. It has two batteries and a battery switch with positions, 1, 2, both and off. Am I to assume that one is used for the engine and the other is used for accessories? As part of a normal operation, how should I set the switch, on 1, 2 or both? Thanks

    What do I have?

In studying my Seloc manual, they refer to 60 degree and 90 degree loopers as well as 90 degree crossflow. What is the difference? I have a 1996 Johnson 112 SPL. Which type of motor is mine? Just one of those things I don't understand but need to know in order to follow their directions. Thanks

    Carb adjustment

I'm going to read my SELOC manual again tonite but maybe you guys could save me some searching. My 1996 Johnson 112 SPL runs great at idle and on plane, right up to WOT. However, when I am slowly pulling away from the dock, it feels and sounds like it is dropping a couple of cylinders. Clears...

    Slid off the trailer

The first couple of times I put my boat it, I had to back pretty far into the water and then at times still had a little problem powering the boat off the trailer. Its a pretty heavy 20" CC with a 155 Johnson. The trailer is set up with bunks rather than rollers. I saw an ad that sold a spray...

    Transducer universal?

I have an older Hummingbird b&w fishfinder mounted on the CC. It apparently has a thru the hull transducer. If I replace the unit with a new color unit, like Lorance, Garmin, etc., do you think I could "splice" into the present transducer rather than use the transom unit they supply? Is it just...

    Mounting position for Smart Tabs

Check out the pics. Can I mount the Smart tabs between the motor and swim platform or do you think they will be too close to the centerline of the boat. I could probably relocate the underside support bracket and try to center them between the motor and side of the boat if they would work better...

    GPS Chartplotter / Fishfinder

Has anyone heard of or know of the Northstar brand? Dependable, quality, etc?

    Prop size?

The prop that was on the motor when I bought it was a 13.25 with a 17 pitch, made out of aluminum. It is on a 1996 Johnson 112 pushing a 20' CC. A friend of mine gave me a SS prop, 13.25 with a 21 pitch. What can I expect to happen using this SS prop over the aluminum prop?

One last problem with Johnson 112

I fixed my previous problem by replacing the fuel pump. It now runs WOT at about 5500. I also changed the plugs, plug wires and one coil that was cracked. It runs great except when I pull away from the dock and slowly start to accelerate. I sounds and feels as if it is running on 2 cylinders...

    Fishing in the keys

I will be fishing out from Marathon Key the first week in April. Do you recommend the ocean side or gulf side? I have a 20' CC and can go offshore any distance. I prefer bottom fishing, hopefully for grouper or snapper. Any suggestions on bait and tackle? Thanks

    Smart tabs

Is it worth $100-$125 or so to add Smart tabs on a 20' center console? I understand it will get on plane quicker and at a lower speed. Is anyone experienced in using these? Thanks

    Fluid leak at prop shaft

There is a small fluid leak at the prop shaft, dripping out the hub of the prop. Behind the prop and thrust bearing on my 1996 Johnson 112, there is a seal (probably double side) with a spring on it. Can I just pop it out without tearing into the unit and replace it with as new one? Thanks (Go...

Prop shaft on 1996 Johnson 112

Behind the prop on my 1996 Johnson 112, there appears to be a rubber o-ring with a spring around it. I'm getting a bit of leakage from there and I was wondering if I can just pull this o-ring and spring out and replace it with a new one?

    Water pump impeller

This web site suggests that the water pump impeller be changed every 2 years or so. As far as I know, it has never been changed. It is a 1996 Johnson 112 Spl with 250 hours on it. I am very mechanically inclined and my question is: can I do it myself? I have a good set of mechanics tools. Is...

    Whale tails

Does anyone have an opinion on adding whale tails to a 115 hp Johnson? Do they really get you up on plane faster, lower speeds on plane, etc?
