    I've not heard that putting too much grease on the splines with cause it not to go all the way in, but putting too much grease on the driveshaft orings can sometimes cause a problem.

    Probably a bad ujoint bellows letting the water in and seals in the drive. Time to pressure test the drive and see where it's leaking.

    Maybe you are referring to the trim position sender and trim limit sender wires? Each of those senders has a pair...
