and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Take a moment (or two) to reflect on this Memorial Day weekend. :usa2:
Everybody be safe in your travels and activities.
Bummer . . .
Break Out Another Thousand $$$$
Mostly center console folks on THT (so it seems). The dialogue does get fairly lively. Things are not as well moderated as here on iBoats.
i post there occasionally.
All the folks that are failing to prepare would actually be preparing to fail. . . they will be on iBoats during the evenings over the weekend, posting their tales of woe. I hope to be prepared . ....
Have you been able to isolate the source of the noise any further? Aren't boats fun?
Unless I am going to be using it throughout the day, I knock the air out of it and stow it in the cuddy.
Having an electric inflation pump makes the process of inflating/deflating much easier to...
Funny that you should mention the Thousand Island area . . . I looked at a Formula with twin Mercruiser 350's up there over this past summer. When I asked the owner about his winterization method,...
It does sound like you have a constant voltage drain going on somewhere, so you will have to play process of elimination. If you do the spark test, be sure to have the battery area well ventilated...
Either method of winterization can be effective, but the anti-freeze method is subject to more errors than the drain method.
i would run the compression test as noted, but also run 2 other tests ...
Chris-
I believe this guy bought the boat about 1 month ago. . . Brand new 2013 Bayliner. Kind of hard to believe that problems would be appearing so quickly.
I'd check and verify the supposed rot . . . post some pictures of the boats innerds when you can.
You can drill a few core samples in the stringers and engine mounts, etc. Then you will see if...
Would you even want carpeting in a fishing boat :noidea:
Be careful pressurizing a fuel tank . . if that is what is being suggested . . . they are not designed to take much pressure at all and could rupture, which would be a bad thing.
Deniz-
Welcome to iBoats . . . you have come to the right place for restoration advice.
Lots of folks here use US Composites for their supplies. I have also used fiberglasssite
It is best...
I've been trying to dry out my boat as well, and a relatively dry climate sure can help.
Saturated foam can be tough, particularly if it is 30-40 years old, as it most likely no longer has the...
Not normal. . . It would be good to know where the noise seems to be coming from. Trailer , outdrive, hull, etc.
I implemented a VoIP phone system at my place of work . . . . Does that count?
Fully integrated with the computers, etc.
it is wicked awesome. Btw
Just be aware of the dangers to children and pets, etc. of a spinning prop on land.
You will leave about 1/4 - 1/2 of a gallon in the tank by siphoning through the fuel pickup. You can draw most of the remainder and any crud by accessing the tank through the gauge sender unit. ...
I see that your bilge pump is underneath the engine and near the transom. It is a great place to pump water from, but a lousy location for serviceability.
Wait until you drop some tools down in...
I use Rustoleum or even just a Krylon enamel. Nothing special. Then the anti-fouling is Trilux.
A metal scraper would be good . . . there is some barnacle stuff for fiberglass hulls, but I'm not sure if it is compatible with metals. So, maybe check that out.
Once you get into good paint,...
What I miss on my new boat that I had on my old boat was mechanical indicators of outdrive and trim tab positions. Much more accurate than the electrical gauges, I could adjust the trim of the boat...
Did you do the impeller and hose work yourself, or was it by marina/mechanic ?
my suggestions would be to get the maintenance manual for the engine and review the cooling system flow diagram. You...
Well, if you are 'excited' about replacing the transom, you might be the first.
Looking good. . . :thumb:
Just looking at the fuel bay . . . is there a limber hole somewhere to allow water/moisture to escape the fuel bay? I see the channel underneath the fuel bay, but not...
Not quite ready . . . Having to fix a few unexpected things on the boat this Spring has delayed my 'readiness'.
I plan on finishing up with the boat on Saturday and launching Sunday. the...
I empty my fuel tank on an annual basis in much the way that you describe . . . connect a tube to the fuel line and run it out the drain plug hole in the transom. The only thing to be concerned...
Welcome . . . if you post some snacks, can we download them :noidea:
Tell us about your boat and the waters you boat on, etc. :thumb:
A 3.0L with a high five . . . just doesn't seem right.
Maybe a 4-blade instead :noidea:
In a severe case, you might see some water coming through the gimbal bearing. In more 'mild' situations, you will notice the water once you pull the drive. (it usually splashes all over your...
Hello Grady:
As you are approaching 100 posts, you are loosing your 'first time poster and beginner' status . . . :D
Anyway, it sounds like this boat is giving you a real work-over in terms of...
Wow. you've been busy. I like the Pics. Do you have the exhaust manifolds from the previous engine?
I think the site is an IQ test. . . .
it should run manually even if there is not water to pump.
Also, you can pull up the float switch to test the automatic function.
tell us a bit more about your boat, etc and maybe post a pic or...
The tank may/should have a certification label that lists the capacity of the tank.
welcome to iBoats. Lots of information in the restoration forum for you to use as a guide as you rebuild the...
Yes, I would agree with the Crownline, Glastron, Bayliner sequencing. Also to buy used as a first boat is a good idea. You will take a 50% depreciation hit in the first couple of years with a new...
Looks to be similar to the Rustoleum zinc compound. West Marine has quite a premium on their supplies. So, if you can find an equivalent at hardware, home, or automotive stores, go for it.
you...
Looks good . . . even with the phuzzy phone pics.
Welcome to iBoats . . .
Doral is generally a well regarded boat . . . however, they recently went out of business. So, there have been a few threads about folks looking for replacement parts,...
Welcome to iBoats . . .
Well, that one item you can scratch off the bucket list :D
It has happened a few times to folks here on the restoration forum, so you are not alone. You probably want...
DB Electrical . . . it was around $200.
I've bought some alternators and starters from them in the past, with good results. Much of their product line comes from Arrowhead Electrical Products,...
I got the new pump today. So, I should be all set to install it on Saturday and test it out, etc.

My boat will be moored in...
I used "United Road" for cross country transport. I felt more comfortable with them than using uship, which is just an eBay-like site for independent trucking companies, etc.
3.8 litres per gallon So, about $4.75 / gallon
2 pumps . . . 2 of everything for that matter. I have a new pump on order, should be delivered today. The trim controls are a little funky, as they are both built into the throttle lever one on top...
Gasoline for automobiles has been trending down for the past couple of months, but is seems that marina gasoline prices have trended upward or at least stayed at/near previous highs.
Maybe we...
I can't remember . . . Oh wait a minute, . . . yes.
The testing method points to the pump as being the issue. So, I ordered a new pump, given that I don't have time to re-build the current...
