I picked up a 2001 GTX RFI with 21 hours on it. Showroom condition.
The first time out it ran a little rough at low rpm. It seemed to work itself out once I got up to speed. But then it died after about 5 minutes while going ~30 mph. I brought her home, changed the fuel and the plugs. Now it runs much smoother but back on the lake it again died after about 5 minutes.
Someone mentioned their ski buddy having similar problems with this model and that it is due to problem with the 'key'.
I went ahead and unscrewed the connection, cleaned it, and reconnected. But, since the ski only has 20 hours on it, I didn't find anything that look incriminating. Now that I think of it, if the ground was bad, I wouldn't expect it to turn over when I try to restart it.
Could it be lingering residue loosing up in the fuel line to the injectors?
When I go to restart it acts like its loaded up.
could be a lot of things// go to the black box where the coil is located and clean the ground wire from the coil backing plate to the battery.
also if the fuel is 6 months old or more change it with new fuel
