I need a Propeller for my 1991 Welcraft 186 4.3 L Mercruiser alpha 1 boat?

From what I found so far,I have a 3 blade,14 inch dia.,19 pitch propeller.
Does all the Mercruiser's have the same hub & spline?I damaged my fin tips on my propeller.I haven't removed my propeller yet to know how many teeth spline it is.Reason why I haven't removed it yet is because,as of now I don't have a replacement propeller.The propeller still works but,has some large chips tookin out of it.Thinking right now it still works.It will get me by until I order a new propeller.In other words,I'm affraid to remove it.Then something goes wrong to where I can't put it back on then boatless so to speak.
I was told This is a 15 teeth spline.Is this true?

I was told by another member on this site.I need to know the RPM's & WOT.Why do I need to know that?I mean,I know I need a 19 pitch.I don't want to change the pitch.
I'm simply trying to find another 14",19"P 15 teeth spline & Hub Propeller?
Can anyone cross reference my propeller information to a replacement propeller?

Go to any Merc dealer with this number -> 48-78120A40 and he will give you EXACTLY the same prop... All Mercs use the same shaft/hub... or go to an aftermarket prop maker with the same number and he'll give you a prop to fit...

Runnin' a well BEAT prop is a sure fire way to take out the seals in the outdrive...

I take exception to that statement!!!

I'll have you know that I wrote a computer program specifically for prop calculations, and that when I bought my own boat shop in the early 90s I also took every different style prop Merc made and put it on my own boat to see how they all performed, so I could accurately inform my clients!

You posted a number that was on the prop... I told you the correct number to get a new prop... I'm sorry if my crystal ball doesn't tell me that you live in such a backward place that you can't even get to a town with a dealer in it!

You have your number, try an on-line dealer, or phone one of the aftermarket manufacturers of prop, give them the Merc number and THEY will give you the cross reference number, or even go to their websites and download their brochure, which have the right props for you....

You are going to have to do some of the work here!!!....

If you go to a dealer expect to pay twice as much as online.I have a 1991 4.3 alpha 1 with a 14.25 x 21 and have dead on WOT 4400-4800 RPM

You've given us all the details on your current propeller. What exactly are you after? Are you looking for a replacement Mercury propeller? Are you looking for an equivalent aftermarket propeller? If so, which brand?

You need to know your spline count.
Dia of the Prop.
Pitch of the prop
Last you need to know the brand of you sterndrive.
You only need to know your RPM's & WOT if you are after to change your pitch of your prop.I asked for help cross referencing my prop .Not change the pitch.Then,asking me what brand of prop I'm looking for?Brand doesn't matter.Any brand with a 15 teeth spline ,14 dia,19 pitch will work.I asked for the replacement.That's Michagan brand.Not Quicksilver.

Wow....Everyone needs to chill. Starwriter, even though some epeple are on here to show off how much more they know than others, most just want to help you and you can't bite the hands that feed you. About your prop, you're right. If you liked the performance before the prop got mangled, then figure out what outdrive you have, # of splines, prop diameter and pitch and get another one just like it. Although people tend to have their favorites and different props do have different advantages, brand doesn't really matter much for what you're looking for. Since you're going to all this trouble and expense, I think it would be worthwhile to step up to a steel prop but that's just my opinion. Good luck buddy.

For starters,I just simply asked."Where can I find a prop for this boat I discribed.".I stated the dia of the prop & the 19 pitch I need.
Basically,I get a person asking me to get my RPM's & WOT.You only need to know that information if your looking into changing your prop pitch.I never once stated I was wanting to change my pitch.I thank chris for giving me that information.But,I'm not after to change pitch.Chris ,stated that all Mercruiser's have the same spline.If that's correct?That's all I need to know.I know my Dia.,I know my Pitch I need.Now I know I need a 15 teeth spline.Put,the 3 together and you have a prop.If I was gonna answer my own question?I would first ask that person "What size & teeth count is your spline?"Mearsure the prop dia.,& note what pitch your prop is?.After all of that, send that person in the right direction."As Michagan,Quicksilver or other.I never was debating anything.I asked a simple question.I will apologize to Chris if I stated anything the wrong way.That's the thing about typing from talking in person.Causes,misleads.

FWIW, we are not rude as a general rule. We try and help even when someone doesn't ask a question. Chris is a very strong Merc tech with a ton of experience, professional and personal. Because you didn't ask the question properly. You ask where to get a replacement for your Merc prop... You were told. It's not our fault if you can't get to a Merc dealer. And that's something else you're never told us about initially, or I would have pointed you at an on-line source.

You need to know your spline count.

NO, YOU DON'T... THEY ARE ALL THE SAME FOR MERCRUISER DRIVES! If you buy a Merc prop it WILL be the right one.

Brand doesn't matter??? Are you kidding!?!?! You're asking for a cross-reference and you can't tell us which brand you want cross-referencing to! Let me give you an example of just how stupid that statement is....

Let's say you have Champion spark plugs, RV15YC4 for example, and you'd like to replace them... You need to know what brand you want to replace them with before you can get a number.... I could say yes, replace them with 5613438, and without knowing what brand that is you don't have a hope in hell of finding it...

Here's how you should have asked your question....

I need to replace my current propeller, 19" Merc 48-78120A40, as it's a bit damaged. I can't get to a Merc dealer, so Could anyone give me the part number for a Michigan or Solas propeller?

Job done, no arguments... We know immediately what you have, what you want... Would that have been so hard, instead of the waffle and dribble you started with? Any relevant information in that first post was lost.
