Hi all, i am new here but have been browsing here for a while and always found my answers through the search function but now i cant find something similar so here goes: 91 johnson 225 already has the oil injection disconnected my problem is with starting there is a button that is hooked to the key that i belive is a kill switch but my motor will not start or even spark unless i hold this button in. if i hold it in it will start but shutdown as soon as i let go of the button. if i disconnect the switch at the powerhead my key will start the motor but not turn off the motor. if you need a picture of the button i would be happy to email one to someone that knows how to post it. well that is my dilemma. Thanks in advance

Sounds like you may be missing the lanyard clip that holds the button in and keeps the ignition from grounding and killing the engine.

Re: 225 kill switch problem

hello ob thanks for the reply but it dont look like there is any place to clip anything to it, I could be wrong (my wife says i usually am) but i am unsure. where could i see one of these clips that go on to the button.

I also have a mercury motor that has a switch that you slip the lanyard into and when you pull the cord it flips the switch down and in turn kills the motor but this is not a switch at all it is just a button.

seaox230,Some of the earlier OMC controls used a rubber cap that snapped over the button keeping it depressed.Problem with that type is that the rubber in time stretched out enough to cause intermittent ignition kill problems.
