1989 bayliner capri

just bought this boat for 400.00 from a family member who had left it outside for over a year uncovered but was running before then im not mechanically inclined at all and now the boat has no power to it at the switch i charged the battery and the depth finder turned on and i could move the trim but nothing at the swtich i am going to replace the battery but what steps should i take next to try to regain power could the in-line fuse cause this or where should i check next

More info would be good. what motor? wiggle your gear selector making sure it's in neutral. Ignition switch may be bad. Chase the wires from the switch all the way back and see if there is a fuse. Don't worry about a battery until the starter at least tries to engage there's a starting point..
