Apparent fuel pump problem for a 5.7GXI

I have a 2001 5.7GXI Volvo Penta in my Skipjack with a fuel pump whine and the boat won't run much past 1500rpm. Did some research and talked to the local dealer and decided it was the high pressure pump. My dealer sold my just the high pressure pump. Replaced the pump and took the boat out and still the same thing. Have installed a new gas tank and new fuel lines with marine fuel lines. Read the thread about fuel system testing and got to the first step of checking for air bubbles with a clear hose and my boat failed. I have a 6" air bubble in the line right next to the fuel cell with just a trickle of fuel running through it. The air bubble won't go away. How do i get rid of the air bubble? I assume it shouldn't be there.

You DECIDED it was the high pressure pump?????? Sounds like guessing to me. Did you do any actual troubleshooting of both the low and high pressure pumps to determine if they are both working together?
Do you have the OEM service manuals? You do realize that boat year and engine years is seldom the same, so what is the full model number or serial number of your engine.

The boat is a 1985 Skipjack and the previous owner installed the 2001 5.7GXI. i do have service manuals and have done some reading. i don't have the boat at my home, but got the model number from the receipt the previous owner supplied when i bought the boat so i don't have the serial number available right now.

Not being a boat mechanic i did discuss with my local Volvo Penta dealer and after describing to him what was happening he told me it "sounded to him like the high pressure pump". Took him at his word and tried it.

when that failed i did read your thread on "testing the fuel system" and since the first step was to check for air using the clear tubing and that failed i thought i would post the question at that point.

Sounds like i need to do some more testing.
