Lund 1950 Tyee w/4.3 mercruiser

Hello all I'm planning at looking at a lund 1950 tyee w/ a 4.3 mercruiser. I've never onwed an in/outboard and am looking for advice on signs of engine problems. Also for those of you who have owned in/out or just a regular outboard which do you think is better?

I have had both the i/o and an outboard, actually still have both. I like the I/O. My dad is looking at the same boat you are except it has the 5.0 liter in it. Nice rig..
