I have a 1965 Evinrude Starflite Electric Shift 75 HP Model #75583S. We take it out and it starts up and runs great for about 10 min or so, then at top speed it starts to miss here and there. I back off the throttle and it runs smooth for a while, then it will die. After it dies it won't restart for an hour or two, then it does the same thing. It has all new fuel lines with no air leaks, new spark plugs, all the wires are tight and it doesn't run hot. After it dies I have tried a teaspoon of gas in the carbs and it doesn't help either. A friend said that it may be the pulse pack or rectifier, but I am having some trouble finding any info on them. Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

put a timing light on the spark plug wires when it starts missing, it could be dropping spark as coils heat up and start to fail, common problem with old coils. Remove a coil and examine very closely, look for cracks in the black potting material.

Welcome to the forum. While I am not an expert like jonesg and many others who may give you recommendations, I previously owned a 1962 Johnson 75hp and do have some experiences to share with you. First, if you need a service manual, I have a non-factory manual that covers your motor and will send you a copy. Next, your motor does not have a pulse pack ignition system but it does have four rectifiers (2+ & 2-) in the rectifier assembly. They are individually replaceable but I have no idea about their availability. I had to replace mine because the previous owner blew them up. Finally, I also had problems with the 20amp in-line fuse in the voltage regulator box and had to replace the entire fuse holder to get the proper current flow. Good luck!

I tried to start the motor today and had no fire, checked the coil as was suggested and it was so hot that I couldn't even touch it. When it cooled a bit I removed it and noticed there was a crack almost completely around it under the rubber mounting ring. New coil should be here in the morning, will let u know if that fixes everything. Thanks so much for your help.
