I have a 1977 6hp evinrude that I put a new water pump in 3 years ago, an worked grea then, but now after setting for 3 years, dosen`t seem to shot the water out the pee hole like it did then. put in new thermostat, didn`t help. Wouth it hurt the engine to run it without the thermostat? any idea welcome

Thermostat is needed to maintain proper working temperature.

Has the motor been sitting for the last 3 years?
Could have critter nest or other trash in the outlet. Run a wire up inside.
Impeller could have deteriorated. Would not be a bad idea to drop the lower and have a look.

You need the stat. Check the water pump again and check the line to the tell tale is not clogged or infested with spider webs after 3 years.

77 doesn't have a tell tale.

After 3 years, it's time for a new impeller anyway.

Ok, I'm confused? '77 has the same exhaust housing as my '73, part 0385850
Mine has tell tale opening at the point the case narrows.

Impeller needs to be serviced every year... after sitting for 3 years it probbly got stuck on the walls and when you tried to start it it ripped a part. Check the impeller first and then **** hose where water comes out it might be clogged, if nothing helpes flush the engine with winegar and water. No thermostat will have problems in the long run.
