I have a 96 johnson J50TLEDS. I need to change the power pack. The boat is currently at the dock. Should I pull it out or could I leave it in the water and get this done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Changing a power pack

How big's the boat, and where ya located? If it were me, I'd just pull it up to the beach/shore and do it, but if the water's freezing, that changes things. My boat is trailered, so I don't have a problem with working on it, it's always out of the water, but if on the water that is what I would do. I would not risk doing it from inside the boat and dropping parts, nuts, bolts, tools, into the drink.

Thanks guys. I never thought about flipping the thing around and standing behind it. It is a 20 ft sweetwater on the Little Kanawha in WV, just up from the Ohio. We dock it at the Corral-Riversedge Bar/Grill/Campground.
