New Merecruiser owner but previously owner a Mercury O/B and never had the issue I have here. Just bought boat from a friend. 2006 still under warranty.
Basically, the problem is I am idling and running full speed 200 RPM higher than stated in the manual (i.e. idle at 900 and running at 5000). Details below.
1. Ran it fine the first day we had it out which was the first since it was winterized.
2. One week later, added Star Brite and filled the tank. Could start it but had to keep the choke in and RPMs b/t 2200-2700 or it would stall as soon as shifted to neutral.
3. I changed the fuel filter/ water separator.
4. One week later (yesterday) put the muffs on and started it w/ little problem and was able to keep it in neutral. Temp hit 175 and stayed steady but idled at 900 RPM instead of 700 RPM (as stated in the manual).
5. Put it in the water and idled at 900 BUT when I gave it full throttle we hit 5000. I backed off. Temp remained 175. When slowing down the engine started to stall/ cough (I think it's called "dieseling"????) but never gave out.
Could this be a gas problem? or am I looking at something bigger?
Any help is great!!!!
