I think I've read all the threads about popping out of gear, and just wanted to make sure that what appears to be a clutch dog problem really is so. I recently got a 1964 Evinrude Lark 4 (no history available) that runs fine for about 45 minutes or so, then starts to pop out of gear. It doesn't seem to be RPM related. It then stays in gear for shorter and shorter periods of time, eventually not at all. It will then stay in reverse for a few minutes, then starts popping out more and more frequently, until it won't stay there either. The engine came missing the generator, which I found and installed, had a bad voltage regulator, which I replaced. My friend who has a bit more experience than I with outboards thinks it's an electrical problem. I think not. In case it's helpful, the serial no. and model no. are E01666 and 40463S. Thanks
