Hello. Just got back from my first visit ever to a Bass Pro Shop and I'm still in awe. Simply fantastic. The official opening is next week. They only seemed to have one kind of two stroke oil which was Penzoil Synthetic Blend. Can anyone tell me if a synthetic blend is a blend of synthetics or is it a blend of synthetic and normal oil. It was not very expensive if that is a clue. As always, I appreciate your response. Rick.

It is a blend of synthetic and regular oil. You might find it smokes a bit less, and the smoke is a bit less sticky to your clothes, but I never found any more tangible benefit.

Been using it for last 2 years in my 63' with no problems. it does smoke less and that was a big plus for me. I may try the full synthetic but the price jumps up alot. cheers!

We ran some oil tests for OMC back in the day. The Penn Blend came out at or near the top in every test. I still run it today and have never seen or heard of an oil related issue.

Re: Penzoil Synthetic blend oil

I ran the stuff in a variety of low horsepower (65hp and under) OMC motors over a 10 year period and never had a bit of problem. Several of the motors were needle bearing equipped outboards that originally called for 24:1 mix, but I ran them at 50:1 on the Pennzoil. Never had a bit of problem doing that either. In fact, I got the idea from my local OMC/BRP dealer, who recommended it to cut down on smoke. His view of it was that the modern semi synthetics are so much better than the old oils, that the lubrication capability at 50:1 would be fine.

I now buy BRP XD30 from my local dealer in bulk. The only reason why I do this, rather than to keep using the Pennzoil, is to support my local dealer in these tough economic times. He is always there for me when I need him, so I try to return the favor.

It must be nice to have a dealer like that. My local OMC dealer is the worst merchant I've ever dealt with. I've bought from him numerous times and he always treats me (and everyone else in line) the same. Horrible! I now drive past his shop and 140 miles up the highway to the next OMC dealer who appreciates my business. I'll give the Pensoil a try and thanks for all the replies.

Oil thread are like poison here- BUT...
Everyone for whatever reason has a strong opinion...

I encourage you to use the search function. The Penzoil synthetic blend is very common and you will find by your search that it is liked by almost everyone that uses it.

In my experience both the synthetic blend and full synthetic by Penzoil are very low smoke and burn really clean if you pull the plugs...

I use the fully synthetic Penzoil for a few years now and like it as it claims it's fully biodegradable. Which is good cause the old engines sure do like their oil!
