i've got a 2001 triton tr-17 with a merc 115hp, what is the ideal cranking battery for this engine please include needed cranking amps too.

Pretty much any good quality deep cycle marine battery you will find at an auto parts store or wally world will work just fine.

If you are running a separate PAIR of batteries for your trolling motor then use the deep-cycles for them.

Use a marine CRANKING battery for the motor only battery.
