I have a 1986 Evinrude 150 that starts and idles just fine, however when throttling up the engine bogs down but recovers when brought back to idle. This will continue for roughly 20 minutes gradually getting better at gaining some RPM's, then all of a sudden it will break loose, plain out and hit 50 or 60 mph. Then it will occasionally fall on its face when reducing throttle for turns. I assume it is the carbs. I know very little about outboards. Any ideas on the problem and typical cost for repairs.

Thanks in advance!

check your compression, and spark, if all good. then cleaning, soaking, rebuild kits for each carb. while you are at it, change your fuel lines to alcohol resistant lines. ETHANOL eats the old lines, and clogs carbs.

after you do what these guys have told yiu to do,you might need to change out the recirculation valves.they are in between the carbs on the intake.if they are bad they will cause idling & accelaration problems.
