First time posting... I appreciate the help.

I have a 1985 175hp Johnson outboard. Been sitting up for about 3 years. I want to get it running and see what I need to "invest"...

I pulled off the flywheel to brush off some rust and the magnets were loose. I removed them and cleaned everything. Can someone please tell me where I need to place the magnets back on the flywheel????

I put them in there "roughly" where I remembered them to be and the outboard started but runs rough and seems to be missing. I have not yet rebuilt the carbs but in the works.

I would like to set the magnets and timing first...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously the magnets need to be epoxied in place. Make sure that the beveled portion faces you when placing the magnets in the flywheel. It doesn't matter exactly where the first one is placed BUT use short pieces of 3/8" O.D. fuel hose to keep them seperated evenly.

Moving those large flywheel magnets does not affect the timing. Unless you've actually changed the timing, and I have no idea why one would do that, don't be concerned about it.
