Have a nice motor here, VRO of course, and the port 3 Cylinders are scored. The Starbd 3 are ok and appear to be unworn.
Any thoughts as to why the ports are shot and the stbds are ok?

What spark plugs are you using?

Any overheat/shutdown, alarm scenerio "history" here? Ijust put my 1990 'x-flow' 150 back together (johnson). there was an overheat involved (no alarm). the port side cyl's scored, starboards ok. I found one water deflector between #1 & #3 deteriorated, split and blocking water flow in that area. your story sounds familliar.Oh yea, I found a broken wire on the alarm switch on the port head. Is that '93 model of yours a looper? I don't know if the set up is much different or not - good luck

A 93 is a 60* looper which is completely different than a crossflow.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Plugs taken from the motor NGK BPR6HS.
I have not run this motor, just got it. No indications of overheat.

Ok, it's got the wrong plugs in it. Thses motors are pretty sensetive about combustion temps. When it goes back together just make sure it has Champion plugs. That may not be the whole cause but it sure will contribute to the issue.
