I hope they had good insurance. Tough luck that the closest beach to run it up onto was a wildlife preserve. Hopefully all the fuel burned off...

guys....i threw some poly coated resin sticks...(paint mixing sticks) in the fire....they just about exploded in my hand.....

im gonna have 3 good fire extinguishers on my boat.....once they start to go...i figgure you have only a few seconds before its too late

and it was an outboard. could have been a leaking fuel line. which are most causes. he was really lucky he was close to shore. all the more reason to wear an automatic PFD. the smoke would have possibly attracted help. where he was located. heavy ship traffic in the area off shore. plus heavy air traffic.

Improperly vented fuel tank area? That's about the only thing that will blow up on a boat (accidently;)). I saw a jet ski explode on the ramp one day, blew the rider 20 feet in the air! -gotta vent it before you start it!!
