Lower unit seized up, and I probably need to replace. What years are compatible with the 1989 for the lower unit, and is there anything else I should know because i'm no expert?
Look above the skeg on the gear housing on the lower unit for a single digit number like 3 or 4, that can be used to find out your gear ratio and help lead to a compatable year lower unit.
Give a Mercury dealer a call and see what they have to say! You'll need to give the year, type engine, H.P., engine model number, they should be able to get you on the right track!
