i have a 1969 evinrude 9.5 and a old 1979 johnson 6hp and i would like to put the johnsons foot on it because the evinrudes gearbox is cactus if someone could reply it would be great

I have serious doubts whether it will work. For certain, the drive shaft is different. But if you want to persue it, go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ and compare the part numbers of all the major parts (gears, gearcase etc,)

Ten years and 3.5 hp difference, I doubt they will interchange. You need to find similar year/hp LU from an E-rude or Johnson and then go for it.

The bushing at the pinion is different diameter, so they will not work. 6hp lower units from the 1960s to 1979 should work.
