I HAVE A CLASSIC 50 MERC 2 CYL 4 STROKE THE GAS IS FRESH THE GAS FILTER IS NEW, BUT I WAS OUT ON THE LAKE FISHING WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE,,, STARTED IT UP PUT IT IN GEAR AND IT DIED OUT STARTED IT AGAIN LET IT IDEL AND PUT IT IN GEAR AND DIED AGAIN SOME ONE MIGHT KNOW WHAT IT MIGHT BE ,,, ANY KNOW HOW WILL HELP:redface:

Welcome aboard.. As someone who's dealing with your exact problem on a different motor, It all comes down to the big 3. Compression, Spark, and Fuel. In that order. Don't waste your time fiddling with electronics and carb adjustments until you've verified compression. All should be over 100, and within 10% of each other. You could see #'s as high as 150 depending on your guage.

Also, if you have a "classic 50", that's a 2 stroke motor. I think maybe you mistyped, but just wanted to clarify.
