Our engine is having a problem. It is hard to start and it coughs and sneezes. Whe we finally get it started it has a rough idle and it usually cuts. If we are able to keep it going then it stalls when we put it in gear. It also isn't peeing. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!!
It sounds like some maintenance needs to be done to your motor. If water is not peeing it's possible the hole is clogged and all else is working fine and it's also possible it's the impeller not pumping water.
The second issue sounds like you may be ready for a full tuneup including a carb rebuild. If you don't have the OEM service manual, buy one and get this stuff done.

First and foremost.......... do a compression check! Sounds all too familliar to me. What your describing doesn't sound good. My guess would be that you have broken piston ring(s). The compression check will confirm, or deny, the possibility. With any luck, the compression will be good and all that will be needed is a good carb cleaning to make it right again. Good luck and let us know what you find out in taking those readings. STOP RUNNING THE OUTBOARD!!! I fully agree with previous posts. Especially if it's not peeing. In the meantime.........

Here's an Factory Service Manual for your outboard on Ebay!!!........... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1981...010QQitemZ200196595879QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

There is NO substitute for these manuals. They are worth their weight in gold!!! Assuming your compression test is good, with this literature and the good folks here at iBoats you'll be enjoying your boat again soon. Best of luck to you!!!.............. ALAN
